Ok, so I’m kind of obsessed with something…
It’s called a strangewich, and it’s basically an ordinary sandwich that’s transformed into something extra special with the addition of an unexpected twist –which is SO my mantra when it comes to sandwiches.
Today I’m partnering up with Hellmann’s and Target to share two “strangewich” recipes with you guys – a sweet spin on a classic grilled cheese, and a crunchy, salty spin on a gooey peanut butter and banana sammie. Both super easy, super weird (in the best way possible), and ridiculously quick to throw together.
Also, before we go on, there are a bunch of other creative strangewich recipes over at Hellmann’s website, so be sure to check all of them out!
My go-to breakfast in the morning is one of two things – scrambled eggs with avocado and toast, or peanut butter-smothered toast with perfectly sliced bananas. I love them both, however, sometimes I get bored – really bored. Slathering a couple slices of bread with peanut butter AND Hellmann’s mayo, plus adding the saltiness and crunchiness of mini pretzels, totally takes my typical breakfast to another level.
I picture Teddy and his future-hypothetical sibling sitting together side-by-side at the dining room table chomping on these for breakfast, because while I obviously adore them, the fun combo, is perfect for the kiddos as well.
Next up, a sweet spin on a classic, gooey grilled cheese. We happen to adore the combo of sweet and savory, and this blueberry + grueyere + mayo combo is probably one of my all-time favorites. Warning, these guys are messy, but they’re so worth it.
If you’re not familiar with gruyere cheese, it runs in the swiss family, but is just a touch nuttier and more pungent than it’s more common counterpart. I actually prefer it to swiss, especially when it needs to stand up to a more prominent flavor like blueberries.
Now, while the gooey cheese and sweet, tangy blueberries are the “meat” of the sandwich, another super inventive aspect of it, is mayo is used to get that perfect golden and brown exterior while simultaneously melting the cheese.
Guys, be sure to try something strange with your family soon using Hellmann’s! If you head into Target between now and 10/1/16, you’ll get 2 for $7 of the Helmann’s Real Squeeze bottles. Get ’em!
